Cessons de vouloir courir toujours plus vite pour, finalement, faire du surplace, quand ce n’est pas de la marche arrière ! À l’instar des mouvements Slow Food, Slow City ou Slow Travel, nous appelons à créer le mouvement Slow Science.

Chercher, réfléchir, lire, écrire, enseigner demande du temps. Ce temps, nous ne l’avons plus, ou de moins en moins. Nos institutions et, bien au-delà, la pression sociétale promeuvent une culture de l’immédiateté, de l’urgence, du temps réel, des flux tendus, des projets qui se succèdent à un rythme toujours plus rapide. Tout cela se fait non seulement aux dépens de nos vies – tout collègue qui n’est pas surmené, stressé, « surbooké » passe aujourd’hui pour original, aboulique ou paresseux -, mais aussi au détriment de la science. La Fast Science, tout comme le Fast Food, privilégie la quantité sur la qualité.
